Mizumo Music’s Artist of the Month – October 2011

DUB MECHANICS

Dub Mechanics

Dub Mechanics (a.k.a. Scott G) is a staple remixer on the Mizumo roster.  He has smashed out a whopping 9 remixes for the label in under 2 years!  With such an impressive work ethic, we thought he would be a perfect artist to feature in our new monthly Artist of the Month column. For you San Francisco Bay Area folks, catch Dub Mechanics live at our 100th Release Party on Thursday, October 6th. More details here:

1.  Artist name:

Dub Mechanics

2.  Real name:

Scott G

3.  Do you have any alternate identities that you’d like to disclose?

My dark Tech House alias “Skooo”

4.  Where are you based out of?

Los Angeles

5.  What is your favorite color or combination of colors?

Black & Silver plus a hint of blue.

6.  If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

PIZZA!!

7.  Is there a particular catch phrase you find yourself saying a lot?

It’s one word… “Awesome”

8.  What’s one of your favorite places in the world to visit, and why?

New York City.  It’s a cultural hub and always, always there is something to do.

9.  How long have you been producing?  If you DJ as well, how long have you been DJing?

Producing for 6 years, DJing for 12.

10.  Do you prefer working on original productions or remixes?  Why?

That’s a tough one and depends on what I’ve been doing more of at any given time.  I like to mix it up with both.  (That’s such a political answer) lol

11.  What platform do you sequence in (Logic, Cubase, Ableton, Fruity Loops, etc)?

LOGIC 9

12.  What’s your favorite piece of gear or software to use in the studio right now?

My Access TI Virus polar keyboard.

13.  Briefly describe a production technique that has dramatically improved your production skills.  How did you discover this technique?

I master my tracks as I go along so I can hear exactly what’s going on as I arrange and mixdown a track.  After years of trying to get my masters to sound big I had to break it down and get it right.  Discovered it by a lot of painstaking trial and error!

14.  What words of wisdom would you give to up-and-coming producers?

Always push yourself to get better and learn new things as well as insane amounts of dedication.  If you find your social life is suffering because you’d rather be in the man/woman cave working on a track you’re on the right path! ;)   Collaborate with others as well to learn some new secrets and teach a few.

15.  Post a link to a project that you are proud of:

I did this 80’s bootleg a few years back and I just think its dope!!  I start rocking the air guitar every time I play it and I made a cool little video for it as well. Ahhh the good ol 80’s
